Dr. Sherri Bucher

Dr. Bucher is a co-investigator and research coordinator for Kenya in the Global Network for Women’s and Children’s Health Research, a multi-site consortium dedicated to the investigation and implementation of strategies to improve maternal-neonatal-child health in low- and middle-income countries. She has served as Principal Investigator/co-Investigator on several funded initiatives related to neonatal resuscitation training in resource-limited settings using Helping Babies Breathe (HBB). Dr. Bucher is an international Master Trainer for HBB, She serves as a US-based HBB Country Mentor to Kenya on behalf of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Dr. Bucher is a Contributing Editor and Master Trainer for Essential Care for Every Baby (ECEB), a simplified curriculum for essential newborn care; she served as PI for the Kenya site on the global field evaluation of ECEB. Dr. Bucher also participated as a Contributing Editor, and is a Master Trainer, for Essential Care for Small Babies (ECSB).
Dr. Bucher is particularly interested in how ICT solutions can be utilized in resource-limited areas to: (1) profoundly reduce morbidity and mortality from preventable causes of newborn death; (2) build sustainable health worker capacity; (3) contribute toward achievement of targets, goals, and objectives in the Essential Newborn Action Plan; and (4) facilitate international public-private collaboration.

Currently, in partnership with Johnson & Johnson and with technical support from the American Academy of Pediatrics, the mHBB team is performing a needs assessment, landscape review, and contextual analysis to support opportunities, and identify partners, for scale-up of mHBB in sub-Saharan Africa.
