Martha Holley Newsome is responsible for World Vision International’s Sustainable Health global programme group, including food, nutrition, HIV&AIDS, and water, sanitation and hygiene. She has a Masters of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health and a BA from Wheaton College in Illinois. She has spent 14 years living in Southern Africa, in Mozambique and South Africa. She recently joined the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement Executive Committee. Martha is also a mHealth advocate and has been championing the scale up of digital technology for maternal and child health and nutrition within World Vision and served on the mHealth Alliance board for three years. She currently sits on the mPowering Frontline Health Workers steering committee.

Before her current role, she was responsible for the Global Health and HIV/AIDS Hope Initiative. From 2004 to 2007, Newsome was the Africa HIV&AIDs Director and led World Vision’s Hope Initiative in Africa. She also served as World Vision’s country director in Mozambique and as their health director between 1997 and 2003. She also worked as technical advisor for Wellstart International’s Expanded Promotion of Breastfeeding programs for Asia, Africa and the former Soviet states. In addition to South Africa and Mozambique, she has lived briefly in Mali and Cameroon.
